The MDT (Modular Diagnostic Tool) is an innovative and modular system for an easy creation of complex diagnostic applications for the automotive area via "DRAG&DROP" of the indicators. The innovative technologies appearing in the M.D.T. enable and guarantee a fast visualisation of vehicle parameters. The direct access to a pool of prepared ECU data can happen without detailed knowledge of CAN (bus) topology and the ECU.

Built on easy accessible information and a basic application configured during the development, a structured diagnostic application can be created with the authoring tool. The MDT provides "Expert Diagnostic" showing the vehicle parameters as well as a "predefined diagnostic" leading the user purposeful to the error  source by using error trees. Experiences of service technicians can be integrated directly into the diagnostic application with  graphical programming which is similar to error trees or flow charts. So the error analysis and debugging of problems is accelerated significantly.

Integrated CAN trace functionality
It is a surface element, for visualizing CAN messages similar to the CANexplorer 4. Besides the function of the current display in which the newly arriving messages are appended in a table view below, the CAN trace element provides also the possibility to display the messages in a static view. Furthermore, an ID-based filtering is integrated which enables to view only certain CAN messages.

All data can be written in one file and be loaded again for later analysis. You can save your session at the end of the recording as well as a continuously during recording. With these new functions, detailed CAN bus analysis can be integrated directly into the diagnostic application to provide trained personnel this possibility without using an additional tool.

The MDT supports a number of international protocol layers like KWP2000, SAE J2534, SAE J1939, ISO 15765 as well as proprietary and customer specific protocols. So the range of activities can be adapted individually to the requirements of the application.

To be able to use the MDT just a few things are necessary: the run-time licence of the authoring system, a database for the authoring system with ODX files of the ECUs, a computer including a Java applet as well as a CAN-to-USB interface like our CANUSB.

The application is created in 4 easy steps:

  • Creation of a database via ODX files and customer specific data
  • Connecting the database into the diagnostic project of the authoring system
  • Development or modification of a diagnostic application
  • Creation of the GUI of the diagnostic application
