DoIP – ISO 13400 (Diagnostics over Internet Protocol)

DoIP (Diagnostic over internet protocol) is a TCP/IP based transport protocol for UDS and is fully compatible with the existing Ethernet standard. It offers great advantages compared to a CAN-based transport. The reasons are a much higher data transfer rate, cost reduction due to the omission of an otherwise required CAN interface (VCI) and an extremely simple integration into IT infrastructures.

For vehicle manufacturers and suppliers, this transport protocol is particularly popular because DoIP also enables large flash tasks and complex diagnostic applications to be implemented in a much shorter time. In addition, the physical medium is irrelevant for this protocol, which allows transmission via Ethernet as well as WLAN or mobile phone technology, for example.
